Actress Susan Sarandon reopens Machu Picchu

American Actress Susan Sarandon joined hundreds of visitors early April on a train to the Inca citadel Machu Picchu as it welcomed its first guests after more than two months of repairs. She was among the many who travelled on a 25-mile (40km) stretch of railway reopened earlier in the week by the Transport Minister, Enrique Cornejo, after a storm in January that cut off all access to the historic site. Machu Picchu, perched about 2,500 metres (8,200ft) above sea level, is the source of 90 % of Peru’s tourist revenues. (Source: TimesOnline)
